Angela "Angie" C. Cameron join as partners, and Richard J. Brockman as of counsel. The group joins the firm from Johnston Barton Proctor & Rose LLP, and brings the number of Burr attorneys practicing in the health care arena to nearly 30.

The group brings deep experience in representing nursing homes, home health agencies, pharmacies, hospices, durable medical equipment providers, rehab providers, physician practices, hospitals and other long-term care providers as well as the defense of medical malpractice claims.

The group will provide corporate, litigation and regulatory legal representation in all areas affecting healthcare providers. They will join the attorneys in Burr's Health Care Group whose services include certificate of need litigation, facility and provider licensure, health care lending transactions, medical malpractice defense, Stark, Anti-kickback and False Claims Act compliance, HIPAA compliance, physician practice formation, joint venture arrangements, mergers and acquisitions, Medicare and third-party audits and investigations, and contract negotiations.

 

Angela "Angie" C. Cameron

Cameron has focused her practice on the defense of physicians, nursing facilities and other health care providers in medical malpractice actions as well as the defense of corporate clients in general litigation matters. In addition to her health care litigation practice, Cameron also assists health care providers with navigating federal and state laws including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the state of Alabama's certificate of need laws, and Medicare and Medicaid regulations. Cameron also represents health care providers before state licensing boards.

Cameron earned her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Alabama. She is actively involved in the Birmingham Bar Association and serves on the Board of Directors for the Birmingham Volunteer Lawyers Program. Cameron is also a member of the Alabama Nursing Home Defense Lawyers Association, the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association and the Alabama and Mississippi State Bar Associations.

Richard J. Brockman

Brockman serves as legal counsel to a variety of health care providers, from the largest health care systems to individual providers, and plays an active role in drafting and responding to health legislation that impacts health care and senior housing providers. Among some of the legislation he has authored, or helped author, are amendments to The Alabama Natural Death Act, The Certificate of Need Act, The Health Care Authority Act, the Durable Power of Attorney Act, and the Health Care Facilities Licensing Act, among others.

Brockman also represents regional and national lenders and mortgage services that lend to the nursing home and senior housing industry.

Brockman earned his undergraduate degree from Huntingdon College, his law degree from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, and his L.L.M. from the New York University School of Law. He is a member of the American Bar Association, American Health Lawyers Association and the Health care Financial Management Association. Brockman is also a member of the Birmingham Bar Association and the Alabama State Bar Association.
