Birmingham Partner Kristen Watson has been named in the Birmingham Business Journal's annual 40 Under 40 awards. These awards honor the best and brightest of the business scene in Birmingham who have distinguished themselves in their fields before the age of 40. 

Kristen’s practice is focused on a wide range of consumer finance issues. She represents financial institutions such as banks, auto finance companies, credit card companies, debt buyers/collectors, mortgage lenders, as well as compliance work. She is experienced with claims involving the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Truth-in-Lending Act, and the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act.

Following her inclusion in the 2023 Birmingham Business Journal 40 Under 40 list, Kristen Watson was profiled on the publication’s website in a Q&A published on February 24.

Highlighting her most proud accomplishments, Watson points to building her practice and experience to a point that allows her to help her colleagues and her clients, all while finding the time to be a mom to her “two precious little boys.” As she continues to build her practice and raise her children, Watson sees herself in 10 years still practicing at Burr & Forman and with even more industry experience that makes Burr the go-to law firm for consumer finance matters nationwide.

Continuing to look into the future, Watson would like to see increased regional cooperation across the Birmingham metro area by 2023. Relatedly, and already moving in this direction with the Red Rock Trail System, is for Birmingham to be a more walkable city. “While the city can provide the resources, it also requires buy-in from its residents,” she said.

Looking towards her past and the path that has propelled her to this place in her career, Watson noted the best advice she’s received came from Mike Wells, the lawyer who first inspired her to practice law and taught her that perseverance and patience have a way of making their own luck. “If you have both grit and patience, you never know when things might break your way,” she said. Another career lesson she included was that most mistakes can be corrected – "address mistakes head on and bring a solution to fix them." S
