The South Carolina Women Lawyers Association (SCWLA) has named McNair attorney M. Elizabeth "Liz" Crum the 2013 winner of its highest honor, the Jean Galloway Bissell Award.

The award's namesake, Jean Galloway Bissell (1935-1990), was a trailblazer who paved the way for South Carolina women lawyers in multiple fields. Her remarkable career and civic contributions serve as the standard by which the award nominees are measured. The award is presented each year to an individual for his or her distinguished and noteworthy service to the public and legal profession, achievement of professional excellence and participation in activities that have paved the way to success for women lawyers on the national, state or local level.

The award comes as no surprise to Crum's friend and colleague, Ariail Kirk. "If you read through Liz's bio, you will notice that one word continuously appears; 'serve.' For nearly 40 years, Liz has served the legal profession through numerous positions, both appointed and elected. She has served her community as an advisor and advocate. In doing so, Liz has served the mission of SCWLA, by showing young women how truly rewarding a career in law can be."

Ms. Crum was honored by SCWLA at a reception on Thursday, October 10 in Greenville, SC.
